Case Study: How We Helped A Community-Centered Nonprofit Revamp Their Website

The Goal

Our client–a Nashville-area nonprofit who helps community members in crisis–needed an upgrade to their website. Through their website they are able to build connections with applicants, donors, and to share their work with the wider community. It is the hub of their organization, and they wanted to make it easier to use for everyone who accesses it. They wanted to keep much of the information and their logo the same, but needed some behind-the-scenes updates to make their website more user-friendly and modern. They also wanted to be sure to represent the diverse range of Nashville families that they were helping in the images used on their website. And to comply with current legal requirements and best practices, they also wanted to include a privacy policy, something they hadn’t implemented previously.

The Strategy

Our custom web design team got right to work, building out a new website to house all of the information, event pages, applications and donation options that the client requested. We found example websites that included features our client liked and wanted to include–this made the process of building out a website according to their needs and requirements just that little bit more streamlined. 

Once the website was built, we entered all of their existing information and helped them make key edits to content and staff information. A major upgrade was making donation easier and more readily accessible for those coming to our client’s site–especially for mobile users. Beyond just building a mobile friendly website, we also ensured that the QR codes used on the donation page were easy to scan for folks accessing the website on a more traditional monitor, while also including a simple button for those accessing the website on a mobile device. No matter how a person gets to the donation page, they can easily give. Removing any friction means that our client can receive more vital funding to keep helping disadvantaged folks in their community. We also ensured that their social media accounts and newsletter signup were given prominence so that they could spread the word to their followers.

The Results

After much back and forth communication and plenty of edits, we were able to launch our client’s new website–there was excitement all around! We helped them to make some additional edits and provided a walkthrough video to show them how to access the website to add new events going forward. All in all, we really enjoyed creating this website for our client and are thrilled to see how a more modern, streamlined approach will help them to continue making change in the greater Nashville area.

The Takeaway

Due to evolving experiences at the client’s organization, along with staff changes and an effort to get things just right, there was a lot of back and forth before we were able to make their new website live. But eventually we all agreed that it was more important to make the site live as-is than it was for it to be perfect. There will always be a chance to make changes going forward, since AMST is hosting this new site and –we’re always happy to help our clients.
